Update to Yearlong Sweeps #2 & APU Results
Here’s the second update to the yearlong sweeps. It reflects the changes discussed since the last update, but should in no way be taken to be the final version of our rules. For example, we have no definite rounds/tournaments standards for qualifications. The results from last weekend are up on forensicstournament.net, but for convenience I’ll [...]
Update #1 to Season Sweepstakes
Here is the first update to our yearlong awards. Since all of the raw data from which this is tabulated is available on forensicstournament.net, and will likely remain so all year long, this should be a fairly transparent process. For answers to questions about where these numbers came from (for example, where is the guy [...]
SoCal-LD Season Sweepstakes
As mentioned in an earlier post by Mike Marse (Cal-Baptist) we are proposing a new year long award system here at SoCal-LD.net. We’ll call it the SoCal-LD Cup. It is meant to both encourage greater participation in NFA-LD in Southern California and reward schools who exhibit excellence all season in the event. We will offer [...]
New Feature on the Site
With the success of the definition database I thought I would start adding a few other features to the site that I have been kicking around for awhile – up next is a NFA-LD timer! This new tool is designed to allow you to easily time a standard NFA-LD round and keep track of prep [...]
Summer Break
Now that finals have finished and summer is here I wanted to let everyone know the posts will be a bit more sporadic over the summer months. Which leads me to a question – what do you recommend to do over summer with respect to NFA-LD? We know the general topic and the 5 potential [...]
A new season… a new look
SoCal-LD.net will be going through a new theme and look in the next few weeks – it will be more colorful and allow for greater customization and more ‘widgets.’ Interestingly, the site has been active now for over 2.5 years without an upgrade – hope you like it! — Note, in case anyone was wondering, [...]
SoCal-LD.net Philosophy
Hey everyone! Commenting on a previous post here Sydne observed that people were probably not sharing case ideas because we will be competing against each other this year. I certainly respect that approach and do not intend the rest of this post as an attack on Sydne or any schools who would rather not disclose [...]
Server Update
Our web servers are currently being updated – so you may experience some problems with the site. Hopefully everything will be working again in a few days if there are any problems! Share on Facebook
Wrapping up 2007-2008
This was definitely a successful season for NFA-LD in Southern California. In the next few days I’ll be posting a lot of files that people have sent in and doing a end of the season wrap up post. Throughout the summer we’ll be focusing more on learning debate basics and advanced NFA-LD strategy. Look for [...]
New Feature – SoCal-LD.net Card Cutter – Free for two weeks
We are proud to announce a new feature available at SoCal-LD.net – an online card cutter tool. This feature will allow you to easily create briefs for cards you are cutting online (or that you type in from a hardcopy). The program will allow you to save as many cards in a brief and arrange [...]
Welcome to SoCal-LD.net
Welcome and thank you for stopping by SoCal-LD.net. The site is officially one year old and has gone through a lot of changes over the past year. I would especially like to thank all the debaters and coaches who helped with evidence and feedback to make the site more useful to new and returning NFA-LD [...]
Comments Re-enabled
I’ve installed a few behind-the-scenes features to hopefully control the number of spam comments the site receives. At one point last season 100-200 spam comments were appearing each day! Please feel free to leave question/comments/suggestions/etc to any of the posts from now on to the site. Hopefully spam will not become a problem again! Share [...]
