About

SoCal-LD is dedicated to the development of NFA-LD as a competitive event in Southern California and the country. NFA-LD stands for National Forensics Association – Lincoln Douglas debate and is a one versus one debate event that features a single topic for the competitive season. Students are expected to research the topic and back up their arguments with quoted evidence. One of the defining features of NFA-LD is that it is expressly a communication oriented event that seeks to improve not only the participants’ argumentation but also their public address skills.

This site features NFA-LD event information, local tournament information, evidence sharing, and other great features. Coaches from around the region and country have signed on to author posts throughout the season to help competitors, judges, and coaches learn the event. It was launched at the start of the 2006 season and in the past four years has had over 88,000 hits!

The site was setup by Danny Cantrell, assistant director of forensics at Rio Hondo College (previously from 2003 – 2008 at Cerritos College). Danny competed for four years in NPDA Parliamentary Debate at the University of California, San Diego during college and did two years of high school policy debate. He recently earned his M.A. in speech communication from CSU Fullerton. He is married to his one time debate partner, Jennifer, and has two children.

Starting in 2010 an executive committee was formed to better handle decisions about the Southern California LD Community. Rather than having Danny decide everything by fiat 4 members were added to better represent the community.
