New PSCFA Fall and Spring Champs Schedule

Great News!

At this past weekend’s coaches conference the membership voted to dramatically change the fall and spring champs schedule which, among other things, makes NFA-LD a much more viable event because it’s now all contained on ONE day – with awards!!!

Here is the Saturday schedule:

8:00-8:45am NFA-LD Round 1
9:00-9:45am NFA-LD Round 2
10:00-10:45am NFA-LD Round 3

11-12:05 Parli Round 5

12:20-1:05 NFA-LD Round 4

1:20-2:25 Parli Round 6

2:45-3:30 NFA-LD Bronze Elim

3:45-4:50 Parli Elim 1

5:05-5:50 NFA-LD Gold Elim

6:15 Parli Elim 2

ASAP Debate Awards

So this means that if you are an NFA-LD debater you only have to come on one day and you get 4 prelims and 2 elims. If you do both parli and NFA-LD you are at the tournament on Fri and Sat and the events do not conflict. I want to thank the PSCFA community for recognizing the educational value of NFA-LD and accommodating the tremendous surge in popularity for the event.

I have the updated tournament schedule and will post that this week – but it looks like our region will have six NFA-LD tournaments in the fall semester and three NFA-LD tournaments in the spring – for a total of 9 tournaments! Just three or four years ago we had 2 (APU and Pt Loma).

Such a beneficial change for the budget.

I AM SO SORRY I missed the PSCFA meeting. On the bright side (depending upon one’s point of view, I guess) I wasn’t murdered at the G&M Food Mart in National City (near the U.S.-Mexican border), after all.

Please note that, next February, Glendale College will host NFA-LD at its tournament the week before Spring Champs – tentatively two divisions (Varsity and JV) with four prelim rounds. All prelims on Friday. Speaker Awards and Elims announced Friday night. Elims on Saturday. More specifics to follow. If I read the schedule correctly, this will create a situation where we have four NFA-LD tourneys in a row going into State and Nationals. Looking forward to it – I hope you are. (Note: Glendale College reserves the right to modify the format so both debaters have equal time to speak.)

question, assuming anyone checks the recent comments feature:

Are there plans to add ld to the warm-up/cool-off? There is parli, ies, but no ld…
sad panda is sad.

I think it’s just been an oversight… I’ll try to remember to do this next year…
