Lafayette College Debate Camp – Recap

The inaugural Lafayette College NFA-LD Debate Camp concluded yesterday.

We had a GREAT week at camp with 27 debaters and 7 staff. In the camp tournament, the debaters all pretty much had the same evidence as everyone else. Sam Derrick of Lafayette College finished prelims as the only 6-0. Advancing to the showcase semi-finals were Sam Derrick, Steve Farias of University of the Pacific, Brandon Merrell and Josh Harzman of Western Kentucky University. Brandon and Josh both won their semi’s and closed out the final round of the camp tournament. The debate between Sam and Brandon should be up on youtube shortly. Please don’t make fun of Sam too much for forgetting that sheet of paper for his 1AR.

One of the goals of the camp was to compile a quality set of evidence for this year’s NFA-LD resolution. I believe we accomplished that goal and as soon as the evidence is ready for distribution it will be posted here for download. Until then, keep working hard preparing for the new season!

The staff also did a great job putting together lectures for the camp, and several of them were recorded and have been put on youtube. Follow this link to view the playlists of the camp lectures. I hope more people will be able to join us from California in the future and continue the growth of our camp and NFA-LD.

Also, remember that Lafayette College hosts the Ocho, an 8 round NFA-LD tournament, on October 4th and 5th. We’d love to have some of you from California come out and visit! You can find the invitation here.

Congratulations on the camp! I think Mike was talking about hosting a weekend camp in January out here – it’ll be great to be able to see the evidence. Once you post the files I’ll make sure to link to them from the free evidence page.

and congratulations Sam on prelims and Brandon & Josh on the closeout.
