Piracy Case?
Here is a case we threw together for our state championship tournament. It had some problems with topicality on economic development but I still think it may be helpful as an example 1AC. We also talked about changing it to be a human rights issue (being a hostage probably violates HR!).
You’ll note that I prefer to use only 1 card per page. I think that helps for many reasons:
- Demonstrates to the judge when you’ve moved on from a card. Turning over a page is a dramatic way to show that you are done reading.
- Allows for easy in-round and in-tournament changes. If for some reason you are running out of time (which should not happen since you should time your 1AC BEFORE the tournament) you could easily skip a few cards from various sections. It also allows you to easily adapt your affirmative case within a tournament. Perhaps the solvency cards are just getting destroyed by the negative. If each card is on a separate page for your 1AC you can easily change those out for different solvency evidence without causing too many problems with your case.
- Makes it really easy to read your 1AC. Each page has lots of whitespace and is not cluttered. Each page is clean and easy to follow.
Want even more pirates? Check out talk like a pirate day (the good pirates of yonder – not the bad pirates the case deals with!).
