Generic Negative Disadvantage
I think the negative strategy for this year’s topic is great for new and experienced debaters. For new students, your goal would be a generic negative strategy against each of the areas of the topic. By this I mean to have a strategy for economic development assistance bad, public health assistance bad, and human rights promotion bad. Then, you figure out what area the affirmative is going for and run your strategy.
More advanced students can then have a more nuanced strategy depending on the specific case. Solvency attacks, harm responses, perhaps a specific counterplan, etc… This is one reason I really like this topic – it provides room for both new and advanced students.
From the NDCA evidence, here is a very generic African Economy Disadvantage. The general thesis is that that assistance leads to inflation and that crushes the economy – presumably turning the case advantage. Realistically, you should be able to run this every negative round. Of course, that means that every Aff team should be ready to answer it – but at least you’ll have something!

Thanks Danny! These are clear enough, I printed them out for my debate class. I just wanted to add that if debaters feel like cases that don’t send money to a GHA country don’t link, remember that anything that can be sold in another country also contributes to the economy in much the same way. Even though its horrible to think about, even something like AIDS medication can end up as a commodity in another country, pushing up local prices for lots of goods. Try doing a search for “foreign aid” and “monetizing” for some good research on this concept.
