2007-2008 Topic Announced!

You heard it here first! The new topic is out: From an email to IE-L this evening:

“According to the procedure adopted for the selection of the NFA Lincoln Douglas Debate topic area and the debate resolution, the selected debate resolution should be announced on August 1st. It gives me great pleasure to annouce that the NFA Lincoln Douglas Debate Resolution for the 2007-2008 Academic Year will be as follows:

RESOLVED: That the United States Federal Government should substantially increase assistance to the Greater Horn of Africa in one of the following areas: economic development, human rights protection, or public health.

Larry Schnoor, President”

First reaction – I like it. It’s limited to a geographic area (Greater Horn of Africa) and it’s limited to three policy areas (econ development (not sure what this term means), HR, or public health. That to me makes it both limiting in that the research burden for new/small teams is not to great – but also allows a diversity of cases to be run. I’m thinking that as long as your team as 3 NFA-LD debaters each person can take the head on being Negative on each of the areas and you are set.

More to come now that the topic is out!
