NFA L/D at NCCFI and next year’s camp?

Southern California hosted the National Christian College Forensics Invitational on Mar. 2nd-4th, and So. Cal did very well in competition. Open went to Quarters, and while CBU had two in quarters, Pt. Loma (San Diego area) defeated Bethel (Minnesota) in both sems for a closeout. Novice went straight to finals where Kansas Wesleyan defeated Pt. Loma. As it turns out, the two Pt. Loma open champions also happen to be near the top of the Parli NPTE list. Coincidence? It seems that good debaters trained well are good debaters in whatever format they choose. It also shows that people who have the ability to win in NFA L/D are usually going to be better Parli debaters as well. I’ve attached the 2007 NCCFI LD Cumes, for no other reason than the historian in me demands it. Btw, Clifton Pee from APU and Dan Schabot from William Carey ran debate tab, Michael Dreher from Bethel was the tournament director.

In other news, I’ve had a few preliminary conversations about a So Cal L/D camp next year. Here’s how it would work at this point. On the Friday before the Mt. Sac/CBU swing (so, October 12th?) we would have a day camp at Cal Baptist. The camp would be free, but we would offer a food plan for the CBU cafeteria for lunch and dinner. Basically, something like 12 noon introduction to the topic, a breakout into a few labs that would each develop an aff. case, a couple of off case, and some T args (read: use Lexis quickly). After dinner, the labs would have a quick single-elimination tournament, and we would be over at perhaps 8? For those going to Mt. Sac the next morning, they would have an extra 30 mins of travel time. Unlike last year, the plan now is to have both days of the swing at Mt. Sac, but CBU hosting one of the days. Saturday would have a one-day parli tournament, Sunday would have a one-day LD tournament. Given that it will be free, we should be able to scale it as small or as large (reasonably) as we need. Any thoughts?
